Oral Health Program Coordinator, Utah Department of Health
Taylor was born and raised in Minersville, a small town in Southwestern Utah. She graduated from Beaver High School and went on to study at SUU and UVU. Kara graduated from Utah Valley University with a bachelor’s degree in dental Hygiene. She has also completed a community health worker certification course. Kara is a registered dental hygienist and worked in private practice for 12 ½ years. While working as a hygienist, she worked in rural Utah and Nevada for 11 of the 12 ½ years. In January 2020, Kara left private practice dental hygiene and went to work in the public health field. She worked for Southwest Utah Public Health department, where she worked on healthy lifestyles, injury prevention, tobacco prevention and education, and tobacco cessation. During this time, she worked to strengthen the Quit Line education program in SW Utah and educated dental offices on the importance of referring to the Quit Line. Kara also helped offices integrate the referral process into their patient workflow. In April 2022, Kara started working for the Department of Health and Human Services in the Disability and Health Program then transferred to the Oral Health Program in January 2023.
