Sonal S. Shah D.D.S.

Dr. Shah is a board-certified oral pathologist and oral medicine clinician. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine. In addition to teaching and signing out cases in the UNLV Oral Path Biopsy Service, she diagnoses and treats patients with a wide range of oral lesions and diseases in the UNLV Faculty Dental Practice. Dr. Shah has over 15 years of experience in both academia and private practice. She was previously faculty at New York University and was appointed Director of the NYU Oral Medicine Clinic. After leaving NYU, she maintained 2 clinical oral pathology private practices in NYC.

Dr. Shah has given numerous presentations and CE courses at prominent national meetings and dental societies, including the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and Greater New York Dental Meeting. She holds several leadership positions in national organizations including the American Academy of Oral Medicine (Board of Trustees), American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (Councilor), American Dental Education Association (Oral Medicine Section Chair-Elect) and the INBDE Test Construction Committee. She is an appointed CODA site visitor for the accreditation of oral pathology residency programs in the US. Dr. Shah has presented numerous posters and abstracts at national meetings, published several articles and reviews manuscripts for several dental journals. She is a strong supporter of organized dentistry and serves as an ADA Nevada state delegate representing the Southern Nevada Dental Society and SNDS secretary/CE Chair.

Dr. Shah is an advocate for oral cancer awareness and early detection. She was recently invited by the American Cancer Society to participate in a panel discussion about the dental community’s role in promoting HPV vaccination to help prevent oropharyngeal and other cancers. She is also currently involved with projects involving the early detection of oral cancer through salivary biomarkers and the development of an artificial intelligence application for oral lesion diagnosis. She also is a clinical advisory board member and consultant for several private companies.
