Lena Karkalas DDS, D-ABFO

Dr. Lena Karkalas is the Chief Forensic Odontology Consultant for the State of Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office and affiliated with the Child protection program/Aubin Center at RI Hospital. She has been part of many identifications, has helped with several Bitemark cases and worked on litigation cases. She received her DDS degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 1996 and has completed certification in Forensic Dentistry from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She has been certified by the federal bureau of investigation/national crime information center (FBI/NCIC) to help with the Missing and Unidentified. Dr. Karkalas received her board certification through The American Board of Forensic Odontology (ABFO) where she served as a board member and is currently serving on the executive committee. She is also a fellow of the International Academy of Coroners and Medical Examiners, a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), and member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology (ASFO) and New York Forensic Dental Society. She has maintained a private practice in Dentistry for the past 30 years.
