Assistant Chief Forensic Odontologist, New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner
Dr. Kenneth Aschheim is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Odontology and serves as Assistant Chief Forensic Odontologist at the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner, where he oversees a team of forensic odontologists. He began his forensic career as a member of the World Trade Center Dental Identification Team and is a member of DMORT Region 2 and a consultant to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Dr. Aschheim specializes in dental identification for mass fatality incidents and has played a key role in national and international forensic standards development. He chairs the ADA Standards Body Oversight Committee and the ADA Forensic Odontology Consensus Body and is the former chair of the OSAC Forensic Odontology Subcommittee. His work bridges forensic odontology, computer science, and artificial intelligence. He developed the dental module for New York City’s Unified Victim Identification System (UVIS), co-created the OdontoSearch website, and has led projects involving AI-based dental identification, machine learning for dental age estimation, and oral pathology initiatives with the ITU and World Health Organization.
Dr. Aschheim holds academic appointments at NYU College of Dentistry and Mount Sinai Medical Center and has co-authored three textbooks on esthetic dentistry.
