Jacob Thompson Ph.D.
Director of General Education and Undergraduate Curriculum, University of Nevada Las Vegas
Previously serving as a professor in residence in UNLV's Department of Communication Studies and head coach & director of UNLV's nationally-recognized debate team, Dr. Thompson’s research and teaching focus on presidential and political campaign debates, persuasion, advocacy and argumentation. Under his leadership, UNLV's debate team rose rapidly since its rebirth in 2007 and is ranked among the best intercollegiate policy debate teams nationally. Awards include the 2018 George Ziegelmueller “Coach of the Year” and the 2020 Ross K. Smith “National Coach of the Year” by the National Debate Tournament. Dr. Thompson played an important role in the 2016 third presidential debate that took place at UNLV, serving on multiple university committees that organized debate-related activities, and participating in over 100 interviews as a university media expert on presidential debates.
