Gary Berman DDS
Chief Forensic Odontologist, Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office
Dr. Gary Berman is a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and a past president of the American Board of Forensic Odontology and the American Society of Forensic Odontology. He has also served as chair of the Odontology Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Dr. Berman is a member of DMORT and responded to the World Trade Center and Hurricane Katrina disasters. He serves as morgue operations chief for the Michigan Mortuary Response Team. He has co-authored chapters in the Manual of Forensic Odontology (fourth and fifth editions) and is a member of the AAFS Standards Board DVI Consensus Body. His honors include the AAFS Reidar Sognnaes Award (2024), Lester Lunz Odontology Award (2018), FBI CJIS Division Assistant Director’s Award for Exceptional Public Service (2008), and the Michigan Dental Association Dentist Citizen of the Year Award (2002).
